Komovi National Park.

Komovi is another one of the most beautiful national natural parks in Montenegro. It is just as magnificent as the others and is in no way inferior to Prokletije or Durmitor. However, it has one distinctive feature – it is located relatively close and can be easily reached from Podgorica or the coast.

Accommodation

The park has seasonal shepherd settlements called "katuns." Nowadays, they have switched to the tourism business. These are cozy wooden houses with all amenities. You can rent any such house on Booking. They come in different types:
- shared hostel-style with bunk beds for 6-8 people

- individual ones where a whole family or company can stay

Depending on the katun, they may have a shower (indoors or outdoors), a wood-burning stove for cooking, and mobile internet. Local hosts can also offer you a traditional breakfast and dinner for a reasonable fee.

The main thing to remember is that it's better to book katuns in advance; there aren't many of them, and tourists book them up very quickly.

It is best to get there by car; there are no crowds of tourists in the park, so there should be no problems with parking.

We personally stayed at Kobil Do Guesthouse and Etno Selo Stavna. It is easier to drive to Stavna, as there is an asphalt road and parking. You can rent a separate house, and there is even a small cafe where you can eat. In Kobil Do, the conditions are more spartan and the road is more difficult, but there is much more coziness and solitude with nature.

Remember that there is no supermarket or gas station nearby. You need to bring everything you need with you. It is quite cold at night, but the houses have wood stoves; bring fire-starting materials with you.

You can rent any other katun; it will be the starting point for your hiking.

The Trail

For our first acquaintance with Komovi, we decided to choose an easier hike. It is just a walk without steep elevation gains, traversing along the mountain slopes. From one katun to another and back by a different route.

The total distance was 10 km, with an elevation gain of 300 m. Since we moved slowly, stopping often to take photos, it took us 6 hours to complete the entire path. The trail is located at an altitude of 1500–1800 m.

In Komovi, even in summer, it can be quite cold at night, so the best time to visit is July–August. But it is better to choose mid-August; by this time the blueberries are ripe, and many blueberry bushes are spread across the slopes of Komovi.

I described how to better prepare for a hike here.

The road is filled with picturesque views, from rocky lunar landscapes to green "alpine" meadows and dense forest.

I highly recommend visiting. A picturesque and peaceful place.
