Organising a child’s birthday party in Lisbon turned out to be a challenge with a little extra difficulty thrown in.
Before this, we lived in Montenegro, where “igraonice” are very popular – dedicated spaces fully equipped for children’s parties. Until our daughter was about 8–9, practically all her birthday parties and those of her friends followed this format.
You choose a venue, contact the organisers, agree on a date, time and extras – an entertainer, a cake, decorations. And that’s it. At the agreed time, parents bring their children, the kids play, have fun, eat, and two or three hours later everyone goes home. It usually costs a perfectly reasonable amount, and parents have very little organising to do
Here in Portugal, though, we discovered that turning 10 is no laughing matter:
- ordinary children’s playrooms no longer quite meet the expectations of an almost-teenager;
- we don’t know the local venues very well because we’ve never had to look for them before;
- we still struggle to understand spoken Portuguese, so phone calls are a challenge of their own;
- people here aren’t particularly keen on replying to emails, and sometimes they reply long after the enquiry has stopped being relevant;
- the birthday is just before winter, and the chances of celebrating outdoors are rapidly approaching zero, since it’s already the height of the rainy and stormy season, while the risk of ending up with no party at all is heading towards its highest point
What we needed seemed fairly simple: an indoor venue, about ten children, two or three hours of celebration, an interesting programme for ten-year-olds, staff to look after the children, and the option of arranging snacks and a cake. The guests’ parents should be able to drop their children off and collect them after the party. My husband and I want to be there to watch what’s happening and take photos and videos to remember it by. We also planned to bring a Portuguese-speaking companion who could help the children if needed, since they speak Portuguese and we – not so much yet.
Those were all our preferences. And I looked into all sorts of formats
We considered play centres, dance and karaoke parties, creative and cooking workshops, themed restaurants and adventure programmes. Our daughter immediately ruled out escape rooms and bowling. Fully outdoor options didn’t work for us for the end of November either, but I’ll still leave them on the list – perhaps someone will find them useful at another time of year.
I spent several weeks scouring the internet. From the start, it was clear that the search wouldn’t be easy, because I had absolutely no idea how any of this worked here. I enlisted AI helpers, looked for information on websites and sometimes contacted venues directly to clarify the details.
We live on the border between Lisbon and Oeiras - so I first looked for something we could arrange closer to home. All the guests are from our neighbourhood, and that seemed like a sensible idea. The child needs to be dropped off, and the parents need somewhere to spend a few hours before collecting them again. If it’s nearby, parents can easily go home and return a couple of hours later, or go shopping. Basically, I tried to take convenience into account as much as possible.
It’s September. The birthday is more than 2 months away, and I’ve already gained a whole tuft of grey hair. Our daughter’s comments on almost every option I found were more or less the same: “I don’t want to”, “I don’t like it”, “Well, maybe…”, “Are there any other options?”
After the first week of searching, my husband suggested giving our daughter some money to spend however she wanted and skipping the birthday party. After thinking it over for a bit, our little girl decided that she didn’t need the money and that her first milestone birthday wouldn’t happen again, so she agreed to one of the options. I’ll tell you what we chose below, but first I’ve put together all the options I found - with addresses, website links, brief descriptions of the formats and a few strictly subjective comments
Help yourselves – perhaps your organising skills aren’t the most outstanding either, and one of these options will spare you at least a few new grey hairs, or maybe even a nervous breakdown.
Our main options

|
Largo da Lagoa 15 I, 2795-070 Linda-a-Velha |
A private studio; a photo shoot, music, dancing, karaoke, Just Dance, a disco and a party spread. Aimed roughly at ages 8–14. |
The location is perfect for us, and the programme suits our daughter’s age and interests. The price for the specific number of children, available times, menu, cake and rules for adults attending still need to be checked. |
|
|
Avenida dos Cavaleiros 35/35A, 2790-046 Carnaxide |
Trampolines and activity areas, after which the children move to a separate party room for snacks. You can bring your own cake, but no other food. There are several pricing options, and a dedicated supervisor can be booked separately |
The most straightforward ready-made format for us: online booking and payment, an active programme, a party room, food and the option to order a cake. A dedicated supervisor and an extra hour on the trampolines cost extra, so the final price can end up being fairly high. |
|
|
Nirvana Studios, Estrada Militar, 2720-226 Barcarena |
A private venue, karaoke, Just Dance, a disco, supervisors, food and a cake. Lasts 2.5 hours. |
Disco Party runs from 19:30 to 22:00 or from 20:00 to 22:30, and the package must be paid for a minimum of 15 children. It seemed a little late for ten-year-olds, but the format itself is interesting – perhaps we’ll come back to it in a few years. The daytime Festa Kids is aimed more at younger children. |
|
|
Rua Hermenegildo Pulquério 246, 2645-089 Alcabideche |
A large indoor park with slides, trampolines, climbing structures and party snacks. The party lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes. At weekends, the minimum charge is for 10 children. There is also a separate SPA Party format. . |
An interesting ready-made option for an active indoor party. For us, the main drawback is the location: Alcabideche is further away than the venues in Linda-a-Velha, Oeiras or Carnaxide (not suitable for children under 4) |
|
|
Largo Joaquim José Correia, 2635-047 Rio de Mouro, Sintra |
A themed restaurant with a Harry Potter atmosphere, pizza and different programmes depending on the day of the week. |
A good option for a celebratory family lunch or dinner, especially for Harry Potter fans. However, there is no full children’s birthday programme with dedicated supervision. You need to book a table in advance: sometimes it’s fully booked several weeks ahead. In our family, I’m the biggest fan of magical stories, so this option is more for me. |
Art parties

Rua Reinaldo Ferreira 18B, 1700-323 Alvalade, Lisboa |
Drawing, watercolours, neon painting and creative crafts. They can run the programme in their own studio or come to another venue. |
An interesting art option, but the website doesn’t specify capacity, food, cake or general supervision arrangements. These details would need to be checked separately. By the time I found ArtZone, I had almost no energy left for more emails. |
|
|
Rua de São Tomé 27, 2685-373 Prior Velho |
A free-form art laboratory: children paint, experiment with different materials and can get thoroughly messy. The space is provided for exclusive use. At the beginning of September 2026, the listed price was €250 for a group of up to 11 children. |
A full creative programme in a separate venue. It’s a little far away for us, and the arrangements for food, cake and the celebration itself are best checked in advance. |
|
|
Rua Jau 23A, 1300-311 Alcântara, Lisboa |
Each child chooses a ceramic item and paints it. Around two hours, from €15 per child; materials and firing are included, and cake is allowed. |
A lovely and relatively close option for a calm, creative party. Children under 12 need an adult present, so the format doesn’t quite fit the idea of a fully independent party for the children. |
|
|
Rua Horácio da Silva Louro 37 R/C, 2825-336 Costa da Caparica |
Ceramic painting, a drink, a decorated party table and all the necessary materials. You can bring your own cake. |
A ready-made creative format, but the venue is far from us. You can’t bring any other food, and a maximum of two adults can attend (we needed three) |
|
|
São Bento: Rua da Quintinha 15, cave direita, 1200-366 Lisboa. Also Rua da Liberdade 35A, 2800-155 Almada |
A 2.5-hour party. You can choose painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, origami or illustration. The price is around €25 per child. |
A good option for a proper art workshop. However, parties are advertised for Sundays and Mondays, and we needed a Saturday. |
|
|
They operate in Oeiras and Lisboa; no exact address for their own venue is listed on the website |
Party organisation, creative workshops, face painting and various packages with supervision. |
The main focus is on organising the programme. It’s best to check in advance whether they have their own venue and what the conditions for using it are. We didn’t want to have to find a venue separately. |
|
|
Praceta de Sofala 2A, 2780-043 Oeiras |
Creative activities and workshops, including sewing. The company also organises themed pyjama parties. . |
The venue is conveniently located, but the website doesn’t describe the ready-made indoor birthday party format in much detail. Party arrangements, food and supervision are best checked directly. . |
Cooking workshops

Avenida D. João I, Loja 8, 2780-051 Oeiras |
The children cook together, then eat what they’ve made or take it home. The party lasts around two hours, with a maximum of 18 participants. The birthday girl’s parents can watch from a separate area. Extensive photography and video recording for social media are restricted. |
A nearby and fairly well-organised option. The list of dishes available to cook is provided on request. Our daughter was interested at first, but then decided that at her party she wanted to “go wild”, rather than cook |
|
|
Laranjeiras, Lisboa; the exact address is given to participants after booking |
Cooking birthday parties for children aged 5 to 13 and older. The children prepare dishes under the team’s guidance |
An interesting format with an organised programme, though details about the venue, package contents, food and the celebration itself should be checked in advance. |
|
|
Rua do Vale do Pereiro 19, 1250-270 Lisboa |
On Saturdays from 12:00 to 15:00, children cook with the chef, eat the dishes they’ve prepared and receive certificates. The previously listed price was €21 per child. |
Before planning a party, you need to check whether the programme is currently running and whether it can be booked for a private group. |
Outdoor venues
These options don’t work for us at all, but they’re quite interesting for the warmer months

|
Complexo Desportivo Nacional do Jamor, Rua da Carreira de Tiro, 1495-751 Oeiras |
A ropes course, archery for children aged 10 and over, and outdoor laser tag from age 12. Supervisors, canopy hire, a group menu and a cake are available. Archery requires a minimum of eight participants. |
It’s almost perfect for us in terms of the children’s number and ages. The main drawback is that all activities take place outdoors, so at the end of November the party would depend far too much on rain and wind. From April to September, this would be one of the best options. |
|
|
Mata do Jamor, Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo, Oeiras |
Geocaching with tablets, archery, team games and traditional games. You can book activity leaders, snacks and a cake. Duration – 2–2.5 hours. |
All programmes take place outdoors. Most options require a minimum of 12 children, which may be inconvenient for a small group. |
|
|
Centro Náutico do Jamor, Oeiras |
Canoeing, water games, entertainers, optional snacks and a cake. |
An unusual option for the warmer months, but the programme takes place on open water and requires a minimum of 15 children. |
|
|
Avenida Pierre de Coubertin, 1495-751 Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo |
A large indoor swimming complex. |
We didn’t find a ready-made birthday package with activity leaders, food and a separate room for the cake. This option would suit those willing to arrange and organise the celebration themselves. |
|
|
Parque Urbano do Jamor, 1495-751 Oeiras |
A 12-metre-high outdoor climbing wall. |
There is no standalone birthday package here, and the wall is outdoors. In good weather, it could be considered as one of the activities for a party you organise yourself in Jamor. |
|
|
Parque Urbano do Jamor, next to the field hockey pitch |
A free outdoor playground with wooden structures, bridges, nets, slides and elements of a mini adventure park. There are tables nearby. |
A simple format that’s popular in Portugal: parents bring food and decorations, children play in the playground, and adults chat. There is no separate room, no organisers and no food provided. In the warmer months, this could be a good budget option, but at the end of November far too much depends on the weather. |
Other venues, escape rooms and bowling
These options were quite interesting, but their locations weren’t very convenient. Some of them may come in handy for us in the future

Things to consider |
|
Calçada da Estrela 100, Lisboa |
A cosy party room, a soft-play area and the option to invite partners to provide an additional programme. |
The space is aimed more at younger children. For a group of ten-year-olds, the programme would probably need extra entertainment. |
|
|
Avenida Conde de Oeiras, Loja 31, 2700 Amadora |
A venue of around 250 m². You can order a children’s menu or bring your own food. The morning slot runs from 10:00 to 13:00, and the afternoon slot from 15:00 to 19:00. |
A possible backup venue with convenient time slots and flexible food arrangements. Judging by the entertainment on offer, the format is mostly aimed at younger children. |
|
|
Rua Doutor António Patrício Gouveia 8E, 2780-185 Oeiras |
A private venue, themed parties and Disco Party. Advertised prices start at €120. |
Another relatively close option in the style of Studio Party. We didn’t have time to look into the packages and conditions in detail, so the programme cost, food and supervision should be checked directly. |
|
|
Centro Comercial UBBO, Loja 1054, piso 1, Avenida Cruzeiro Seixas 7, 2650-504 Amadora |
A large indoor “city of professions” where children can try different roles: working in a shop, a hospital, the emergency services, on the radio and in other organisations. It has its own currency, kidZos. There is a separate birthday party format. |
An interesting option for ten-year-olds, especially if the children like choosing their own activities. All activities are conducted in Portuguese. It’s worth checking separately whether a staff member accompanies the birthday group, how long the programme lasts and what the food package includes. |
|
|
Rua São Sebastião da Pedreira 100A, 1050-209 Lisboa |
Two children’s escape rooms – Assalto Júnior and Ilha Perdida Júnior. The games last 60 minutes, and the puzzles are adapted for children aged 9 to 14. After the escape room, you can use a separate room for snacks, cake and birthday wishes. |
A perfect fit age-wise. Each escape room accommodates a maximum of 10 children, including the birthday child, so it’s convenient for a small group. Food and the conditions for using the party room need to be checked when booking. |
|
|
Rua Coelho da Rocha 35, 1250-087 Lisboa |
A children’s escape room built around the search for the lost continent of Atlantis. The programme takes place indoors and is adapted for children, teenagers and birthday parties. The children complete the mission without parents inside the game room. |
An interesting immersive format in which the children participate independently. Before booking, you need to check the maximum number of players, the duration of the full programme and whether there is a separate space for cake and snacks. |
|
|
Rua Ernesto da Silva 54, Loja A, Algés, Oeiras |
A classic escape room: participants have 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and escape from the room. |
The main advantage is its location in Algés, very close to Linda-a-Velha. However, the website doesn’t describe a ready-made children’s package with a party room, food and a cake. Participant ages, group size and the possibility of arranging a birthday party are best checked directly. |
|
|
Centro Comercial UBBO, Avenida Cruzeiro Seixas 5–7, 2650-505 Amadora |
Ready-made two-hour packages with bowling or karaoke: 1 hour and 20 minutes of activity and 40 minutes in a party room with snacks. Bowling is suitable for children aged six and over. A dedicated supervisor can be booked separately. |
One of the most straightforward options: the activity, room and food are already combined in a package. The minimum number of guests is 10, and the birthday child takes part for free. However, parents remain responsible for supervising the children, even if an additional supervisor has been booked. Cake is not included in the package. |
|
|
Centro Colombo, Avenida Lusíada, piso 2, Loja A204, 1500-392 Lisboa |
Bowling, arcade machines and children’s birthday party programmes. You can book a game and party snacks. |
A fully indoor, ready-made format in a shopping centre. Parents will have somewhere to spend time while the children play. Current packages, age requirements, food and supervision are best checked before booking. |
|
|
Rua Chesol 35, 2750-024 Cascais |
A large entertainment centre with bowling, karaoke, Lasermaze, arcade machines and other activities. The lanes have automatic bumpers for children. The centre hosts birthday parties and lets you combine several activities. |
The range of activities is much wider than at a regular bowling alley, so the programme can be tailored individually. Package contents, food, cake and supervision arrangements need to be agreed with the organisers. |
So what did we settle on?
After several weeks of searching, dozens of open tabs and endless rounds of “Are there any other options?”, our daughter finally chose JumpYard Lisboa in Carnaxide. Yes, the very same JumpYard she had flatly rejected at the start of the search. Apparently, some decisions need to sit for a while and ripen.
To be honest, I breathed a small sigh of relief. Of all the options I found, JumpYard had seemed the closest, most straightforward and simplest to organise from the very beginning. No need to find a venue separately, think up entertainment, order food from one place and a cake from another, and then somehow try to put it all together.
The party itself will last three hours: the children will spend two hours in the trampoline park, followed by another hour in a separate party room with snacks and cake. You can’t bring other food or drinks, but you can bring your own cake. We decided not to give ourselves another organising task and ordered a chocolate cake directly from JumpYard.
We had to figure out the supervisors separately. Regular staff are stationed in different areas of the park, keep an eye on safety and help visitors, but they don’t stay with a particular birthday group throughout. A dedicated supervisor, for an extra €50 per hour, stays specifically with your group during the activities. The supervisor can gather the group, explain the rules, help the children find their way around and make sure nobody gets lost between the trampolines over those two hours. A dedicated supervisor is not provided during the hour in the party room.
When booking, they recommend stating the maximum expected number of guests. JumpYard is especially popular during the rainy season, so adding participants just before the party may not be possible. However, you can reduce the number of children in advance in accordance with the cancellation and refund conditions.
Overall, I was happy with this arrangement, although the price is quite hefty. We could have bought an SP5 for that money 😀, but at least we don’t have to piece the party together ourselves from a venue, entertainment, food, cake and supervisors. For our first children’s birthday party in Portugal – and our daughter’s first milestone birthday at that – what matters most right now is that everything goes relatively smoothly.
And then we’ll see. Perhaps by the next birthday we’ll finally be speaking Portuguese, and organising children’s parties will become a pleasure for us rather than a new way to acquire a few more grey hairs.
Conclusion
After looking into all the options, it became clear that finding a venue that suits ten-year-olds, offers supervision, food and a cake, is close to home, runs at a convenient daytime hour and doesn’t hit your wallet with destructive force isn’t that easy. Each place has its own format: some only provide the venue, some build the party around a workshop, and some ready-made packages are designed for larger groups or specific times.
The creative and cooking workshops seemed interesting to us, but our daughter wanted a more active party after all. Adventure Park in Jamor would have been a great fit for the warmer months, but at the end of November any outdoor programme depends too much on the weather. Studio Party remains a good alternative thanks to its music, dancing, karaoke and convenient location.
In the end, we settled on JumpYard Lisboa. It’s nearby, entirely indoors and offers a ready-made format with activities, a separate party room, snacks and the option to order a cake. The cost turned out to be higher than we had initially expected, but for the first birthday in Portugal and our daughter’s tenth birthday, we wanted an option where most of the organising had already been taken care of.
The hardest part of the search was that the websites don’t always provide all the information you need: capacity, final price, package contents, supervision arrangements and rules for adults. Many details have to be checked separately by phone or email. Perhaps for people who have lived in Portugal for a long time and speak Portuguese fluently, this is a normal part of organising a party. For us, though, the search took considerably longer, so I decided to put all the options I found in one place. I hope this list helps other parents find their bearings more quickly and choose a suitable format. Never mind anyone else, this list will come in handy for me in the future
